As the webmaster of directvutv.com, a popular Video Search Engine Www.DirectVuTV.Com, I get asked often what is the technique to getting my website added on Yahoo. In reality, this is not so big a deal at all. In fact, it’s really very simple.

Let’s start with the initial task, getting the web engine to incorporate your pages.

Well, the first thing you need to do is register your web site name.

This can be done at any one of thousands of domain registrars like Register.Com or
this is done by your web host when you open up a new hosting account.

As a tip, it’s best to register your name in advance with a registrar like Register.Com and then create
a hosting account, but if you are new to the web business and don’t want to learn the intricacies of
how to manage your Domain Name Resolution, then a good place to start is just open up a hosting account and register your name with them.

It’ll probably be more expensive than if you do the registration separately, but their’s no real knowledge needed and the
welcome email that your hosting sends you usually has all the information you need to get
started on your hosting site right away.
So does this mean my pages will be added in a search engine like Yahoo right
away?

The short answer is no. With thousands of registrations daily, the search engine bot won’t come by
looking for a little while.

In fact, if you do nothing. It could take weeks before MSN come visiting. And, it may be many
months before they even add a fraction of the pages.

So how do I accelerate the process?
One step is to add your pages manually to the search engines. For Google, you register athttp://www.google.com/addurl/, for MSN, you can go to http://search.live.com/docs/submit.aspx and for Yahoo, their is a link to add to their directory but not directly to their search results. Yahoo’s directory approach is too complicated and now a days most people think that the value of the directory approach is less effective than it used to be, so the short answer is add your site to Google and MSN and Yahoo will pick up on it.

Another step is to get your url listed on other sites. That way when the robot sees your links, it will add the site to their list of sites to be indexed. The more external links into your sites the search webbot see, the faster they will come looking.

An excellent method of speedig up the process is to create a Google AdWords account to put google
adds on your site. You can find the steps to do this at

If the ad robot (a different program than the Google Bot) is available, it will look at your site immediately. If not, you can generally expect that it will come by within a couple of hours.

Now this doesn’t mean that the searchbot will be by right away to index, but my experience is that it will start adding much faster than if you simply add your site through the submit pages.
